Celia Annie Buchanan, a woman whose heart was as big as her sassy attitude, passed away on April 10,2026 at the age of 81. She leaves behind a legacy woven from love, laughter, good food, and a life lived in full color.
Celia was born on April 26th in American Falls, Idaho to Myron and Emma Dance. She married John Buchanan, and together they built a life centered on family, love, friendship and togetherness.
To know Celia was to be welcomed into her home, onto her deck, and straight to her table. She was a gifted cook who carried a lifetime of recipes in her memory and an impressive collection of cookbooks in her kitchen. If you were hungry, you weren't for long. If you were lonely, you weren't for long either.
Celia cherished nothing more than her people. She was fiercely social, deeply loyal, and endlessly generous with her time and her love. She maintained friendships that spanned more than 65 years. No matter where she was the door was always revolving with friends and family coming and going.
Her peace was her home, especially her deck, where she would watch the horses graze in the pasture, tend to her hummingbird feeders, and admire her flower gardens bursting with all her favorite flowers.
Celia embodied the spirit of joy. She was always fun to be around and made sure the party was going. She always had music going, a football game on, or QVC on to find her next must-have gadget.
She was amazing, loving, open-minded, and always up for a party. In all her years, she never spoke a foul word about anyone, a rare and remarkable grace that defined who she was.
Celia is survived by her brother Don, children Todd (Teri) Kendall and Jodi Schaffer, 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Myron and Emma, her husband John, her siblings, Cal, Phillip, and Adriene.
We would like to extend a special thank you to all the family and the friends that cared for her as well as the staff at Grace Assisted Living and Heritage Hospice.
Her family was her world, and she made sure every single one of them knew it.
A celebration of Celia's life will be held on a date to be determined later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a purple petunia, fill a hummingbird feeder, or call an old friend — Celia would have loved that.
