Conn passed away early the morning of February 28, 2015 apparently with little pain in the arms of his beloved wife Vera Jean, ten days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 87. Born on N. Grant to George and Charlotte Housley (at a time when childbirth often took place at home) he attended Jefferson Elementary, Irving Junior High, and Pocatello High School. Conn was a man who wore many hats: drummer, harmonica player, deputy sheriff, fisherman, water skier, trail bike adventurist, kayak maker and square dance caller par excellence. He was also a fine artist whose watercolor and oil paintings hang in many homes and businesses. He worked as Claims Manager for the old Garrett Freightlines but his first passion was flight. Earning a pilot's license at a mere 18, he became an instructor two years later. Conn flew all over North America, from Alaska to Mexico. In addition to serving in the armed forces, by the time he was 22 he'd logged over 3000 hours as charter pilot, crop duster, Red Cross mercy pilot and all-around aeronautical paladin. In his later years he was on the Idaho State Board of Aeronautics. Conn's second great passion was square dance calling. Conn and Vera Jean's Funstars became one of the most successful clubs in the area, cue'ing dances, Conventions, and workshops in Colorado, Oregon, Nevada, Montana and Idaho. Probably a thousand people learned to dance under the Funstar banner. On a basic level Conn was loved by all who knew him. Personable and always ready with a joke, he had a rich social life even at the end. He is survived by his wife, Vera Jean; sons, David and Ken; grandchildren, Jason, Kevin and Laura. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Brian. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the LDS 19th Ward, 225 Oakwood Dr. Pocatello, ID. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83201 208-233-1500 and for one hour prior to services at the church.
