~ A Life Filled with Love, Service, and Adventure ~

Danny Leroy Coverdale was born on November 7, 1948, in Maywood, California, to John Raymond Coverdale and Betty Jean Hicks (Coverdale) of Bell Gardens. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Danny departed this world suddenly, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unforgettable memories.

~ A Journey of Learning and Service ~

After graduating from Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove, Danny’s path took a momentous turn in 1968. While working with a friend on a dune buggy, he met Carol Graves, who would become his first great love and lifelong partner. In the early years of their marriage, Danny answered the call of duty and served his country with honor as a United States Marine in Vietnam, where he was awarded two Purple Hearts for his bravery and sacrifice.

~ Devotion to Family and Passion for Craft ~

Returning home, Danny embarked on a career as an auto body painter under the mentorship of his dear friend Dean Hamonds. Here, he discovered his passion for cars. A love that would echo throughout his entire life. Over 43 years, Danny and Carol’s partnership flourished, blessed with four spirited sons: Mark (Paula), John (Nancy), David, and Allen (Christin), all of Pocatello, Idaho. In 1999, Danny and Carol made Pocatello their home, where he continued his work with Prestige Annex and Prestige Auto Body, ultimately retiring to care for his beloved Carol.

Even in retirement, Danny could not stay away from the workshop or the dunes. He loved restoring and painting cars, building and maintaining dune buggies, sand rails, and sharing countless adventures at the Saint Anthony sand dunes alongside his sons and many treasured friends. To those who knew him best, he was the “Sand Master,” forever at home in the roar of engines and the embrace of wide-open spaces.

~ Building a Larger Circle of Love ~

In 2015, Danny found love anew, marrying Mary L. Egan-Byington (Coverdale). Together, they created an even greater family tapestry, filling their lives with travel, camping, and the warmth of countless relationships. Danny’s unwavering work ethic and zest for life inspired everyone around him. As one of his sons so perfectly expressed, Danny was “the best example of a father and husband you could ever imagine.” His generosity knew no bounds—he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, never hesitating, never expecting anything in return.

~ Legacy and Remembrance ~

Danny’s kindness, strength, and sense of adventure live on in those who survive him: his wife, Mary Coverdale; his sisters, Jeannie Hock (Tom) of Salem, Oregon, and Lucille Garvin (Shawn) of Blue Bird, California; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. The circle of lives touched by his presence is vast and enduring.

He is reunited in peace with his mother, Betty Jean Coverdale Close; his beloved wife, Carol Coverdale; and his brothers, Johnny Coverdale, Jimmy Coverdale, and Tommy Close.

To know Danny was to experience generosity, laughter, and steadfast love. His memory will continue to light the way for all who were fortunate enough to share in his remarkable journey.

A Celebration of life will be announced later in the year for all friends and family who would like to attend.
