Idaho Falls

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Alan Vega, 43, who departed this life on July 11, 2025. Born on May 17, 1982, at Wayne Michigan Annapolis Hospital to Cheryl Barrett and Doug Vega. David lived a life marked by passion, purpose, and compassion for the planet and those around him.

From an early age, David was a steward of the Earth. His commitment to environmentalism wasn’t just a belief—it was a lifestyle. Whether he was separating recyclables with care or educating others on sustainable practices, he led by quiet, consistent example.

David graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree and brought his keen intellect and deep empathy to a number of roles throughout his career. He eventually found his calling in Idaho, working with Bonneville County GIS, where his work made a meaningful impact and his presence became a valued and beloved part of the team. His colleagues describe him as thoughtful, dedicated, and full of integrity.

Beyond his professional life, David was a kind soul. He treasured time in nature, meaningful conversation, and the simple joy of making the world a better place, one small action at a time.

David is survived by his loving parents (mother) Cheryl Barrett and (father) Doug Vega who proceeded him in passing, as well as many friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by knowing him. David will be a donor at the Idaho State University anatomical donation. We encourage those who are curious to look into the program, as it is beautiful and exemplifies David's values.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Champs Heart , which helps disabled children learn to ride horses & Nature Conservancy Program. Two passions he spoke of.
