Dennis T. Haynes

January 4, 1949 — May 2, 2025

Chubbuck

Dennis Tilton Haynes, 76, concluded his mortal journey on May 2, 2025, in Chubbuck, Idaho. The date was significant: the birthday of his beloved mother whom he had longed to see again for years after her passing. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Dennis was the second of nine children born into the loving home of James and Jacqueline Haynes. His life had a difficult beginning since he was born 3 months premature. Throughout his life he was proud of his Florida heritage and sought to honor his name.

Dennis loved to learn and was a gifted teacher at home, in the academic setting, and at church. His life experiences and education prepared him to reach out to others as a social worker and then as a university professor. After earning his PhD from Florida State University, the family moved to Texas where he taught at UT Austin and UTSA. He loved working with young adults preparing for their life's work and he was passionate about his profession.

As a young man Dennis served as a missionary in southeast Mexico. He became fluent in Spanish and sensitive to the needs of those with little of life's resources. Upon his return to Brigham Young University, he married Beverly George in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were blessed with four wonderful children: Barbra (De Jones), Jacqueline (Dax Brock), Daniel (Staci Basilius), and Margaret (K.C. Thueson). Den and Bev are the proud grandparents of 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

After retirement, the couple served together as missionaries in Guatemala. Life has brought both difficult challenges and sweet blessings. Four years ago, declining health necessitated a move closer to family and ultimately professionals whose love, care, and expertise have brought us full circle. We are most grateful for what we have received and for those who truly live up to the name Grace and seek to serve Heavenly Father's children.
