Donald George Cummings passed away quietly on May 18th, 2026, from natural causes. He was 101 years old.
Donald was born on September 7th, 1924, in Beverly Glen, CA. to Elmer Willis Cummings and Anna Christina Nuffer Cummings. His mother died when he was three and he was sent to be raised by Joseph A. and Greta Nuffer (his uncle and aunt) in Preston, ID. From that time forward he knew them as his father and mother.
Donald is survived by his children Robert Jay Cummings (Rosemary), DeAnn Cummings Thompson (David), Cheri Cummings Tonks (Russell), and Sharon Cummings Saca (Luis), 27 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren and 1 Great, Great Grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Sharon Nuffer Olsen (Larry) of St. George, UT, and many nieces and nephews.
His Siblings Jimmy, Beulah, Beverly and Barbara and their spouses, his brother-in-law Larry Olsen, as well as his beloved wife Norma Jean Manning Cummings, his parents and one grandchild Jeana Thompson Larson (Glen) and also his foster daughter Pamela Stiles Pisciotta (Dan) preceded him in death.
Donald was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp in the European Theatre as an electronics and radar technician. He was always very interested in air and space flight. Donald also served an LDS church mission in Kentucky and Tennessee.
He attended Idaho State University, BYU, and then graduated from Utah State University with a degree in education. He worked as a Teacher and Head Custodian, retiring from the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV.
He was married to his sweetheart Norma in the Logan, UT. LDS Temple in 1950. Caring for her with tireless love until her death. Following that, he lived with his daughter Cheri in Herriman, Layton, and Willard UT.
Donald was an avid reader and genealogy enthusiast who worked on his computer daily into his late 90’s, finding family history as far back as the 1500’s. He also worked on translating census records, and taught genealogy classes for the church. There was an enormous amount of Temple work completed for his ancestors because of his hard work and dedication.
Donald was a loving husband and father, who was very kind, sweet, quiet, and humble. He was the best of men. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Wilks Colonial Chapel, 2005 S 4th Avenue, Pocatello, ID. A viewing will be held prior beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Inkom Cemetery, 3303 North Rapid Creek Road, Inkom, ID.
