Doris Jean Shrum

Apr 3, 1933 — Jun 24, 2026

Doris Jean (Wolfe) Shrum passed on the morning of June 24, 2026, at the age of 93. Doris, the second daughter of Ellis and Waive Wolfe, was born on April 3, 1993 in Buhl, Idaho. As a child her family moved to Glenns Ferry, where she attended school and graduated high school in 1951.

As a requirement given by her father, she attended one year of business school, so he would allow her to marry dad, James O. Shrum. Mom and Dad were married on April 13, 1952 in Glenns Ferry. They had five children: Bob (Lynn) Shrum, Janice (Steve) Brandt, Jim (Shannon) Shrum, Jane (Brett) Hobson, and Nancy (Kevin) Smith.

Doris held many jobs throughout the years. Some included working as a civilian at Mountain Home Air Force Base, working alongside dad and running the Circle Y Drive Inn in Glenns Ferry and after moving to Pocatello in 1971, working as a cashier at Albertson’s, where she retired.

Mom’s favorite job was being a loving wife, daughter, mom and grandma, and she was the best. She unselfishly cared for her mother during her final years and dad during his. Her family was her life and she taught us by example to be kind, caring, and respectful and to love unconditionally. Being the matriarch of the family, her home was always the gathering spot, especially during the holidays. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by family.

Mom was a great seamstress and we all loved her homemade projects – fleece socks and hats, robes, Halloween costumes, doll clothes, hanging travel bags, rice bags and her famous booze bags. She was the “Queen of Contact Paper.” Give her scissors, a razor blade, and a roll of contact paper and she could make anything old, new again.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James O. Shrum and a great grandson. Also preceded in death by her two sisters and their husbands, Betty and Andrew James and Alta Mae and Charles Bloom.

She leaves behind her five children, 14 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.

Doris is remembered by many extended family and friends who will deeply miss her.

The family would like to thank Caring Hearts Assisted Living Residence and Brio Hospice for the care they gave our mother.
