Douglas Burtosky, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this world peacefully on April 26, 2026, while taking his typical afternoon nap at home. Born on March 13, 1961, in the beautiful town of Great Falls, Montana, Douglas was a man whose life was defined by love, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to his family and friends.
Douglas was welcomed into the world by his loving parents, Edward and Annlyn Burtosky, who instilled in him values of kindness, curiosity, and integrity. His journey through life was shared with his siblings, Mike and Jill, and stepfather Buddy Claunch. They gave a treasure trove of cherished memories that Douglas held dear and would use as bedtime stories from “the olden days”.
A man of remarkable intellect and drive, Douglas pursued a higher education with vigor, earning a master’s degree in chemical engineering. He spent much of his free time listening to rock and roll, jazz, and skiing. His career was marked by innovation and excellence in both engineering and investing, and he used his skills to support his family as any good man would. Beyond his professional achievements, it was his warmth and humanity that left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
Douglas’ life was enriched by the love of his life, Sheila, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 34 years, filled with laughter and adventures. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Michael, Jamie, and Julie, each of whom has become a testament to their father’s guidance and encouragement to be their own person (and ever faithful Green Bay Packers fans).
As a grandfather of two, Douglas’ legacy lives on in the smiles and laughter of his grandchildren, who will forever carry forward his spirit of curiosity, kindness, and messy scientific experiments.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife Sheila, their children Michael, Jamie, and Julie, son-in-law Matthew and grandson James, who continue to honor his memory and celebrate his life through their own achievements and love for one another.
Douglas Burtosky will be remembered as a man of great warmth and wisdom, a pillar of strength and a beacon of love. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. As Dad would cheerfully say every morning, “Good luck. Have fun. Do your best!”
