Douglas Wayne Gushwa, 74, passed away on March 15, 2026.
He was born on February 13, 1952, in Jamestown, North Dakota. He grew up on a farm southwest of Jamestown. He graduated from Jamestown High School, then attended NDSU in Fargo, North Dakota. He then attended Illinois College of Optometry.
Douglas married Gail Hogden in 1973. They spent over 50 years together and lived a very long and active life camping and fishing. As Doug got older, he became an amazing gardener.
He lived for his family, but fishing and hunting were close seconds. He had so many stories of fishing and hunting big game and his favorite game to hunt was coyote. Then came the grandchildren and even more fun.
Doug practiced optometry in Pocatello, Idaho from 1977 until his retirement. Thank you to all who were his patients. He enjoyed helping each of you.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; children, Mitch Gushwa of Meridian, ID and Lisa Gushwa of Bozeman, MT; grandchildren, MacKenzie Gushwa, Connor de Leon and Colton de Leon; sister, Juda (Jerry) Buda of Minnesota; cousin, Jim (Debbie) Wahl of Jamestown, ND; sister-in-law, Vicki Gushwa of Arizona; nieces and nephews, Adam Gushwa, Nathan Gushwa, Barry (Jamie) Oxton, Sara Oxton, and his mother, Helen Gushwa, who is over 100 years old, of Jamestown, ND.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Jason and Drew; his dad, Wayne Gushwa, and his brother, Dean Gushwa.
