Elva Elston, known affectionally as Elvie, peacefully passed away on August 7, 2025 in Pocatello, Idaho.
She grew up in Nogales, Arizona, and graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Education. Elvie met her future husband, Art Elston, at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona. They were married in 1980, moved to Phoenix after graduation, and were happily married for 45 years. Elvie enjoyed being a teacher at Washington Elementary School for 34 years, focusing her efforts helping the educatively mentally handicapped (EMH) and students with English as a second language (ESL). She formed lasting friendships with her fellow teachers and made lifelong impacts on her students. While in Phoenix, Elva raised her two children, Christopher and Steven. Her boys and their friends have fond memories of delicious homemade breakfast burritos and packed, rowdy, car rides. Elvie loved making her home an attractive central “hang out.”
After retiring, she and Art built a house in Pocatello, Idaho, to be with her children and grandchildren. During retirement, Elvie enjoyed antique shopping with her husband, eating around the kitchen island with her children, feeding horses with her granddaughter, playing Uno with her grandson, and hosting extravagant Halloween parties. Her favorite moments were when her whole family gathered at her house celebrating being together.
Elvie is survived by her husband, Art, their two boys Chris and Steven; and her grandchildren Sam and Naomi.
