Ernest Geiger III passed away after a valiant fight with cancer on May 15th, 2024, with loving family members by his bedside.
Ernie was born July 24th 1949, in Pocatello to Ernest Geiger Jr. and June Boero Geiger. He married his high school sweetheart Patricia Hanmer February 20th, 1970 in Reno, Nevada.
Ernie retired after 43 years working for the Union Pacific Railroad, starting as a maintenance mechanic on the track equipment and finally as an engineer, first in the yard, then piloting trainloads from Pocatello to Green River Wyoming and Nampa Idaho.
To say that Ernie was a handyman was an understatement. He was a talented mechanic, welder, fiberglasser, builder of things and so much more. Ernie loved his time at home in his expansive garage, covered in grease, sawdust or whatever the current project had to give. Ernie was a master mechanic and rebuilt many Corvettes, GTO’s, Jeeps, Trucks and his lime green “Jeepster”.
When not working in his garage, you could find Ernie riding his mountain bike, water skiing at American Falls Reservoir or Redfish Lake and on the mountain snow skiing at Pebble Creek where he was a consistent fixture and lifelong season pass holder.
Ernie was a man of many talents and hobbies but his greatest love of all was spending time with his grandkids and many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Geiger; daughters, Kristina Geiger-Blue (Carey) and Heather Springsteed both of Boise; six grandchildren Carson Meyer, Alex (Danielle) Blue-Day, Nathan Blue, Brighton and Mazzy Springsteed; siblings Margie Reynolds (Jack Vier), Steven (Jodie) Geiger, Bill (Kendall) Geiger. He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and June Geiger.
A celebration of life will be held from 3 to 6 pm, Monday, May 27th at their home at 4850 Johnny Creek Road.
There will be a small graveside service Tuesday, May 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S 5th Ave, Pocatello, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ernie’s name can be made to your favorite charity.
