In the early morning of July 19, 2026, Evelyn T. Kawanis March took her final breath surrounded by her loved ones. She was in no pain and so at peace and ready to go home.
Evelyn’s thoughts,
If you are reading this, please do not mourn my passing, as it was my time. Of course, I would like to have been on this earth longer. But I am going home to my Heavenly Father.
I was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on December 12, 1933. Being the oldest of 8 and growing up during the Depression years was not easy in the city. Sadly, my father was not around very much, so it was necessary for me to quit school in the 8th grade and help support the family. That does not mean I had a sad upbringing. I could not have had a more loving or giving mother. My sisters and brothers, well, were sisters and brothers, and we all made it a strong, loving family.
At the young age of twelve, I fell in love with the boy next door. That boy, Dick Kawanis, ended up being the Love of my life. He called me Peaches. In 1952, we got married and had two wonderful daughters – Debra and Caroline. Dick was a career Marine, so we always said our family was like gypsies, always moving around. It gave us a wonderful life.
Life can also change in a moment. In 1989, Dick lost his life due to Esophagus Cancer/ Agent Orange exposure. In 2003, Debra lost her life to skin cancer. Debra left behind 3 young ladies – Devri, Melanie, Melissa.
With the help of my daughter Caroline, her husband Wes, and my faith in the Lord... I was able to walk on. I had a good life with faith and love in my heart.
With that faith and love, I was again blessed at the age of 75 to meet another special man who I could love and who loved me. Skeeter and I got married in 2007. We were hoping we could have a good 5 years. There were many more. So, you could say I was blessed with two loves. What more could I have asked for?
So, it is ok to shed a tear, but don’t be sad for me. I am where I need to be, with my Heavenly Father and the loved ones that have gone before me. I worry about the loved ones I leave behind. If you could help them with my passing, that would mean so much to me.
No sad goodbyes – just hugs and kisses and see you later.
Evelyn

In lieu of flowers, iron a shirt and wear it in Evelyn’s memory. This would make her laugh and warm her heart.
