Francis C Thompson, 81, passed away, December 23, 2024.
Frank was born January 28, 1943 in Rupert, Idaho to Lorias E. Thompson and A. Luell Crawforth, their fourth son and seventh child. When he was very young, Frank’s family relocated to American Falls, Idaho where he attended school and graduated from American Falls High School. Frank suffered with asthma as a young child and adult that later seemed to be more seasonal allergies. Frank wore a leg brace suffering from Perthe’s disease during some of his grade school years, but his biggest challenge came with urinary problems. Frank had the top half of his left kidney removed in his 20’s and spent time at the U o U for other surgeries throughout his 20’s. Frank continued with UTI’s throughout his life and this infection entered his blood stream causing sepsis which eventually took him home to his Heavenly Father.
Frank loved the Snake River and spent many hours fishing below the American Falls dam and boating on the reservoir. He tied flies and fly rods, gifting them to many family members and friends. He had an impressive gun collection and loved to hunt. Frank was the family photographer, taking pictures on every occasion.
In 1962, Frank met and married Annette Bennett in Sunset, UT while employed on Hill Airforce Base where he worked on the Minuteman Missel. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. To this union came two girls, Angela and Marcie.
Frank worked at Bannock Steel where he served an apprenticeship in the welding program while attending Idaho State University at night to become a draftsman. He then worked at FMC for nearly 35 years and helped Astairs close the plant.
Frank enjoyed bowling, fishing, and hunting. He loved collecting hot wheels with his grandson, Jeremy, and amassed some 40,000 cars. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including, counselor in the Bishopric, ward missionary, teacher, temple extraction, stake assistant clerk, and stake tech advisor.
