Gaylene Dawson (née McCulloch), 68, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025. She was born on June 1, 1957, in Pocatello to Cecil and Marie McCulloch.
Gaylene married Robert Dawson and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, passionate arguments, adventure, and resilience.
She was preceded in death by her son Camden, her brother Devin, and her parents. She is survived by her sons, Coby and Keston Lewis; her beloved grandchildren, Connor William Lewis and Caitlyn Marie Lewis; three sisters, one brother, and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
A dedicated Certified Nurse’s Aid (CNA), Gaylene devoted years of her life to caring for the elderly and disadvantaged, serving others with compassion and patience. She loved the outdoors, especially camping trips and ATV rides where laughter and family stories filled the air. She treasured the simple joys of coloring with her markers, tackling crossword puzzles, watching crime dramas, and writing heartfelt letters to her granddaughter in a pen-pal style that became their special bond. And when it came to her grandchildren, they were the absolute light of her life—her favorite role was always “Grandma.”
Gaylene had a vibrant and fiery personality that lit up any room she entered. She could be stubborn, yes, but that same stubbornness was also her strength. She never gave up, no matter what life threw her way. She was also active in several local veterans’ organizations, proudly supporting her husband and son in their military service.
Her life was not without challenges—she faced illness, the heartbreak of losing a child, and difficult seasons with courage and determination. Gaylene’s story is one of resilience, love, and perseverance. Her determination in the hardest seasons of life leaves her family with a legacy of strength to live up to. She will be deeply missed, but her laughter, love, and lessons will stay with us forever.
