Our loving mother, Helen Marie Reese Vigliaturo, died peacefully in her sleep on February 15, 2026. She was 96 years old. Helen was a very strong woman who thrived for 60+ years after a diagnosis of Lupus. She lived her life her way every day. Despite her Lupus, she attended her boys’ sporting activities, fished and hunted with Albert and her boys on most of their adventures into her 80s, until an accident breaking her hip and her femur made her wheelchair bound for the last 11 years of her life. She maintained a positive and happy attitude until the end.
As a young mother, she was a stay-at-home mom who was active in all her boys’ activities and was even the organizer of many of the events in their lives, including cub scout den mother. She was not one for profanity, never spoke ill of anyone and was always someone who we could go to for advice, love and comfort. Her culinary skills were award winning, from her fabulous Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts with her homemade pies to her special Italian raviolis. She was still fishing in Alaska with her boys and their wives into her 80s. Albert and Helen were well traveled and especially loved fishing Henry’s Lake. After being a devoted stay-at-home mom (just like June Cleaver – Leave it to Beaver) she pursued a career with the love of her life, Albert, joining him as partners to own and operate the crown jewel of appliance stores, Pocatello Electric Co. until passing the store to their oldest son, Michael and his wife, Suzie. Her youngest son, Steve and his wife, Vicki, pursued a successful real estate career.
Helen was an exemplary mother figure, wife, and human being, embodying the bet qualities: unconditional love, strength of mind and spirit, and unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends. Helen is survived by her loving son, Steve and his wife, Vicki, who was like the daughter she never had. Also, Suzie Vigliaturo (Michael’s widow) her special sisters in law, Edith Boehme, Patricia Vigliaturo, who had a special bond with Helen and was there for her the last 13 years (to the end), grandchildren, Melanie Vigliaturo Wheelock (Michael), Nicholas Vigliaturo, Angelina Vigliaturo, Michelle Vigliaturo Strickland (Tim), Kristen Vigliaturo, along with numerous great grandchildren who loved her dearly as well as special friend Brenda Cater who was always there for her.
She was preceded in death by her lifelong love, Albert Joseph Vigliaturo, married 56 years, and her loving son, Michael Patrick Vigliaturo. She also lost her closest, dear friend and antique and garage sale partner of 70 years, Eva Carter, who just passed a few months ago. If there is an estate sale in heaven, you can bet Helen and Eva will be there – early!
