Janice Curtis

November 20, 1952 — April 5, 2026

Pocatello

Janice D. Curtis, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 73 on April 5, 2026, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Janice was born in Afton, Wyoming, to Ardell and Vazale Denning on November 20, 1952. She was the youngest of three children, the sweet baby sister to Scott and Steven. Her parents moved the family from Wyoming to Arizona and then later to Logan, Utah. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, Janice was very active in various activities, including church and being a member of the ‘Highlows’ dance team while attending Logan High School. She participated in many other activities, making great friends and acquaintances along the way.

After graduating from high school, Janice attended the University of Utah, where she met and fell in love with Robert “Bob” Curtis. The two of them married in 1975 and moved to Downey, Idaho, where they worked for many years on the Curtis family farm. Together, they started a wonderful family of three children: Carolyn, Guy, and Carl. Later, they divorced, and in 1994, Janice moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where she continued to raise her family with love, compassion, and understanding.

Janice proudly worked in different aspects of the medical field over the years, serving as an EMT for Bannock County, a manager of the housekeeping department at Pocatello Regional Medical Center, and in medical insurance billing at Rocky Mountain Surgery Center. She also worked at Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, and spent some time with Hewlett Packard. Most recently, Janice was in Quality Assurance at Helping Hands. Throughout all of the places that she worked, spreadsheets were one of her many special skills, along with always assuming the role of ‘work mom’ and being the master of mischief to lighten the workday. She made many lasting friendships wherever she worked.

Janice loved her family, the outdoors, and animals. Over the years, Janice had many cats, dogs, and even a few horses, but always a rescue animal. She was a great fisherman and loved camping. The mountains were her second home, where sitting around a warm campfire with family and friends was truly her happy place. The summer time spent with family and friends was treasured so much that in January, a proposed camping schedule of eight to ten weekends was shared with loved ones, so everyone had ample opportunity to arrange their time off accordingly.

Janice was known best by those who loved her as funny, spontaneous, sharp, witty, fiery, and feisty. She went out of her way to ensure everyone felt welcome, included, and truly seen wherever she went. She loved all opportunities to attend plays, sporting events, and recitals for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janice was the best gift giver, and always found unique gifts for her loved ones. Her family and friends will miss her quick wit, selfless nature, and love of bacon.

She is survived by her three children: Carolyn, Guy (Heidi), and Carl (Nicole); her six grandchildren: Jordyn (Zacc), Bradley, Konner, Kamry, Corbin, and Kinlee; her great-grandchildren, Liam and Holden; sisters-in-law: Cora, Joy, Deanne (Delbert), and Delene, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and ‘framily’.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ardell and Vazale Denning; brothers, Steven and Scott; sister-in-law, Joyce; in-laws, Guy and Dorothy Curtis; great-grandson, Greyson; beloved dog, Flash; and other family members over the years.

Per Janice’s wishes, no formal service will be held. The family invites family and friends to attend a Celebration of her Life on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at FMC Park, 10881 N Rio Vista Rd., Pocatello, Idaho, from 1 to 3 p.m. Please dress casually, come as you are, and share your memories.
