Jay B. Ekstrom passed away on October 29, 2025 in Pocatello, Idaho. Jay was born on October 1, 1934 in Malad, Idaho, to Levi and Emma Ekstrom.
Jay attended school in Malad then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was stationed in Japan. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, he went to work for FMC, where he retired.
Jay married Patricia Sides on November 25, 1961. They had two children, Nadine (David) Newbold, and Donald “Don” Ekstrom.
Jay enjoyed bowling, coaching boy’s baseball, the chariot races, flat track racing with the horses and hunting. Jay belonged to the AQHA, Portneuf Valley Chariot Association, and Bannock Boys Baseball.
Jay is survived by his daughter, Nadine (David) Newbold; son, Donald “Don” Ekstrom, both of Pocatello, Idaho; 4 grandchildren, Jake (Samantha) Newbold, Nick (Pilar) Newbold, Lindsie Ekstrom, and Zachary Ekstrom, all of Pocatello, Idaho; 3 great-grandchildren, Ryker Newbold, Colton Newbold, and Jaydin Newbold; sister, Dixie, all of Pocatello, Idaho; and numerous cousins, nieces, and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Emma Ekstrom; his wife of 59 years, Patricia Ekstrom; brothers, Levi, John, Donald and Albert; and sisters, Doris, Pearl, Gloria and Hazel.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 3, 2025 at Wilks Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S 4th Avenue, Pocatello, ID. Viewings will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 2 and prior to the service on Monday, beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at 2:30 PM at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S 5th Avenue, Pocatello, ID.
