Jeffery Lyle Coffin

September 30, 1959 — August 14, 2025

Jeffery Lyle Coffin, 65, passed away at home on August 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. His beloved wife, Laurie, was at his side. He lived an interesting and exciting life, spending his last years in his favorite place, Idaho.

Jeff was born on September 30, 1959, to Lyle and Julieanne Coffin in Pocatello, Idaho. He spent his early years in Idaho before Mom and Dad moved to California. Jeff split his time growing up between California and the family ranch in Downey, Idaho. He farmed with Dad and Grandpa in the summer and surfed in the winter. He graduated from Midland School, a college preparatory boarding school in Los Olivos, California, in 1977. At Midland, he lettered in Cross Country and was the class Prefect, the top student leadership role. Jeff returned to Idaho full time to attend college, and he graduated with a degree in Journalism from Idaho State University. Like Dad, Jeff was an excellent skier, both snow and water. He loved to hunt birds, and got his little brother hooked on chasing upland game. His career path led him into graphic design, working for an advertising agency in Sun Valley, Idaho, and in Boise for Orbit, a national magazine.

Jeff met and married Laurie Lower in 1992, and they settled in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they both taught school for Clark County School District. He was also a sailor, bought a sailboat and lived on it at Lake Mead with Laurie when they first moved to Las Vegas. He loved the water and went on to own many boats including a Ciera Bayliner cabin cruiser named Soliloquy. Jeff was really an artist, and all of his homes reflected a special talent he had for interior design.

Jeff and Laurie retired, moved back to Pocatello, and he spent the remaining years fishing, hunting, playing golf, and driving Idaho’s back roads. He got into the RV lifestyle and purchased a 35’ Monaco Coach when he retired, and he and Laurie spent part of the winters in Arizona and California.

Jeff is survived by his lovely wife, Laurie, who he was married to for 33 years. They loved to travel together, including many trips to Florida to play golf, fishing trips to Island Park, winters in Palm Springs, California and Southern Arizona. He is also survived by his brother, Barry, who was very close to him all of his life.

My brother’s life was not wasted, he was taken too soon, but the time he had, he filled it with adventure, joy, and excitement. Jeff was a good-natured soul, had incredible vision of the future, and left this world a better place.

A memorial for Jeff will be held on September 6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Portneuf Wellness Complex Pavilion #3 in Pocatello, Idaho. If you would like to send flowers, please contact Pinehurst Floral at 208-237-6522.
