John Roy Scott, 77, passed away on February 10, 2024.
He was born on March 24, 1946 to Ralph and Ruth (née Baty) Scott, and was raised in Kimberly, Idaho. He graduated from Kimberly High School in 1964, then from Idaho State University in 1969. After graduating with bachelor’s degrees in English and Speech he embarked on a career in broadcast journalism. John married Patricia Thomason on July 31, 1976. They had three wonderful children, Tricia, Matthew, and Emily who they raised in Pocatello, Idaho. John was fondly recognized by many for his reporting with KSEI (radio) and Channel 8 news (KIFI). After a career in broadcast journalism he worked in Public Relations for Bannock Regional Medical Center and later worked at Portneuf Medical Center.
As a retiree, he loved helping others and volunteering. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pocatello. He served in multiple ways, including as a member of the vestry, being a lector, and leading the updating of outdoor landscaping. He also volunteered with Gateway Habitat for Humanity Restore, helping maintain the store and always being willing to share welcomed advice. John also enjoyed spending time outdoors skiing and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Pocatello, ID; children, Tricia (Kevin) Haworth of Cincinnati, OH, Matthew Scott of Duluth, MN, Emily (Ryan) Mark of Pocatello, ID; grandsons, Grayson and Hunter Mark; granddaughters, Hailey and Clara Haworth; brothers, Jerry (Cathy) Scott of Naxxar, Malta, Mike (Kathy) Scott of Twin Falls, ID, Andy Scott of Heyburn, ID, Greg (Ervin) Scott of Boise, ID; brother-in-law, Joe Nielson of Salt Lake City, UT; sister-in-law, D.L. Thomason of Renton, WA; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth Scott, and sister-in-law, Alice Nielson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 248 N Arthur Ave, Pocatello, Idaho with luncheon to follow.
