Joyce Piggott Smedley, 82, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at The Gables of Pocatello Memory Care Facility, surrounded by her son, Gregg, and daughter, Tracie.
Joyce was born in Montpelier, ID, on September 9, 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Smedley, on December 9, 1961, in Bloomington, ID. In 1963, they moved to Pocatello, ID, for job opportunities. Joyce and Tom were married for 24 years and had three children together: Leslie Ballou, Tracie Bartu, and Gregg Smedley.
She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Joyce will be remembered for her carefree personality, sense of humor, and infectious smile. She made friends easily and was rarely seen angry or upset. Joyce enjoyed going on girls' trips to Jackpot and Wendover to visit the casinos, even though she rarely won. Throughout her life, Joyce held various jobs, including a waitress at the Highwayman, sales and catering at the Holiday Inn and Quality Inn, and ended her working career at JCPenney. In her early years, she was also involved in a snowmobile club and the Civitan Club.
Her next chapter is only the beginning, and those who loved her find peace in knowing she is reunited with loved ones, especially her dear parents.
A celebration of Life will be held on August 9th for Family and close friends.
