Karen was born on October 31, 1939, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Melvin and Georgia Mathews. From an early age, she developed the faith, resilience, kindness, and compassion that would become the hallmarks of her remarkable life.
Karen, beloved mother, grandmother, faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, and cherished friend, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on June 26, 2026, at the age of 86, in Peachtree City, Georgia.
Throughout her life, Karen found her greatest purpose in serving the Lord and caring for those around her. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she faithfully fulfilled many callings and joyfully served a full-time mission in Holland. Her testimony of Jesus Christ was the foundation of everything she did. Whether teaching, offering encouragement, serving quietly behind the scenes, or simply listening with a caring heart, Karen reflected the Savior’s love in countless ways. Her Christlike example blessed the lives of family, friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Above all else, Karen treasured her family. Being a mother and grandmother brought her immeasurable joy. She lovingly nurtured her children and grandchildren with unwavering faith, patience, wisdom, and unconditional love. She celebrated their accomplishments, comforted them through life’s challenges, and created treasured memories that will live on for generations.
Karen also found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved tending and admiring beautiful flowers, spending winters as a snowbird in Yuma, expressing her creativity through painting and crocheting, and enjoying a good book. She found beauty in God’s creations and happiness in life’s quiet moments.
Karen married David R. Andersen on April 2, 1965 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They were married 52 years.
Karen is survived by: her son, Troy (Linda) Andersen; grandsons, Sean and Cory all of Pocatello; daughter, Shana (Shane) Sandal; granddaughter, Megan; grandson, Logan all of Peachtree City, GA. Sisters Jill Miller and Ann Autery Kennewick WA.
Karen was joyfully reunited with those who preceded her in death: her parents, Melvin and Georgia Mathews; her beloved husband, David R. Andersen; her cherished son, Rocky Andersen; and her sister, Myrna Crapo.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Her gentle spirit, unwavering testimony, and boundless love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7
