Karen LaRae Murphy

Karen LaRae Muphy, 78, passed away on April 10, 2026, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Karen was born to Jack and Iris LaVern Wells in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She spent many years in Menan, then moved to Pocatello when her stepdad started driving truck.

She attended schools in Pocatello and was part of the first Sophomore class to graduate from Highland High School in 1966. Shortly after graduating, she went to Seattle with her cousin to go see Howard Murphy, who was returning back from the North Pole. Howard became her forever love. They were married shortly after.

Karen pursued her educational and professional career as a Licensed Practical Nurse, following in her mother’s footsteps. She spent many years working for Bannock Hospital, then Dr. McRoberts and Dr. Birkenhagen.

Karen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found so much joy serving others. She created the ward bulletin for almost 20 years and was always reaching out with meals, friendship, and Christlike love.

Being a mother was Karen’s greatest accomplishment. Her son, Paul, was immersed with baseball his entire life. While in his younger years, Karen was the Chubbuck Baseball Commissioner and helped design Cotant Park.

Karen was an avid crafter. She loved creating a quilt for new family members that many still cherish to this day. She loved her flower garden. She was hardworking, patient, and loved big.

Karen was beautiful on the inside and out. Her sudden passing leaves a hole in the heart of many.

She is preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Melina Lindholm.

Karen is survived by her sweetheart, Howard; children Paul (Mindy) and Cliff; seven grandchildren Sloane (Mason), Colt (Destiny), Mitch, Matt (Stella), Sophia, Siera, and Kayman; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Please join us honoring Karen’s life on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 am at the LDS Church at 2000 S Fairway Dr, Pocatello, ID 83201, with a visitation hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery.
