Kathleen Marie Kies

Pocatello

Kathleen Marie Kies, 103, passed on December 24, 2025. She was born in Roscoe, SD, and spent her formative years on the family farm. Seeking new opportunities, she relocated to Seattle, WA, where she began work at Boeing Aircraft Company. During her time there, Kathleen became a "Rosie the Riveter", contributing to the war effort, and met the love of her life, Wayne Edward Kies, who preceded her in death in 2020.

After marrying Wayne, Kathleen supported him during his service as they moved to Minnesota and then to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, which became their longtime home. Kathleen was a devoted stay-at-home mom, nurturing her family until her youngest children reached high school. She then worked at the North Shore Convention Center and catered events aboard the iconic paddle boats on the lake. The family enjoyed countless summers at their cherished lake cabin, lovingly built by Wayne, and spent several years traveling to Yuma, AZ.

Upon selling their home in Coeur d'Alene, Kathleen and Wayne moved to Pocatello, ID, where she continued to touch the lives of everyone she met with her magnetic personality. Kathleen was a dedicated member of Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene and St. Anthony’s in Pocatello, living out her strong beliefs each day.

Kathleen is survived by her four children: Wayne (Kathy) Kies, Jean (Dennis) Milliken, Kathy Packard, and Charles (Denise) Kies. She was predeceased by her first child, baby boy Kies, who passed away shortly after birth. Kathleen’s legacy includes six grandchildren—Sheri Gates, Eugene Kies, Celeste Heston, Kim Roberts, Robbie Curtis, and Heidi Kies—as well as ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Known for her love of wine, Kathleen always enjoyed knowing its alcohol content. In honor of her memory, raise a glass of wine (at least 13%) and offer her a heartfelt toast—she would truly appreciate it.

A memorial service for Kathleen will be held at a later date and location to be determined.
