Kenneth Robert Lyon, 72, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on April 25, 2026 following years of battling cancer with determination and grace. He was surrounded by his loving family, including his faithful dogs, during his final days.
Kenny was born in Manhattan, New York, on March 3rd, 1954 and moved to Idaho as a baby. Kenny lived life on his own terms—with strong values, honesty, a lot of common sense and a wild stubborn streak. He took great pride in his work as a port of entry inspector for the State of Idaho, where he believed in doing things the right way (even if he had a little fun along the way).
He married his best friend of 53 years with whom he shared a lifetime of adventure. He was incredibly proud of his kids and grandkids, who meant the world to him.
Kenny had a fun sense of humor. He was always playing pranks, teasing and being mischievous. If there was an opportunity for a joke, a laugh, or a little harmless trouble, he usually found it. He had a deep love for classic rock, and chances are if music was playing, he was either singing along or cranking it up. He loved the outdoors—fishing for “the big ones,” hunting pheasants, ducks, geese, deer, and elk, and cherished many hunting and fishing adventures with his son. The rivers were a place of peace and healing for him, where he loved running his jet and drift boats. When fishing on the Salmon river, he was known to taunt his friends with a grin, or a dog kick, proudly declaring himself the “KO King” thanks to the number of fish he caught —always bringing his energy, competitiveness, and humor with him.
In his younger years he played football, basketball, volleyball and loved cross-country skiing. He also coached his daughter’s 5th grade basketball team and little league teams over the years.
Kenny will be remembered for his big personality, his quick wit, and the way he could make people laugh. He was an extremely honest man—except, perhaps, when it came to playing board games or pool with the family. He also carried the title of self-proclaimed “male model” with confidence and humor.
He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, pranks, jokes and just enough shenanigans to keep everyone smiling for years to come.
In true Kenny fashion, the best way to honor him is to tell a good story, play your favorite classic rock a little too loud, jump over a roaring campfire, catch a big fish, and don’t forget to stir up a little harmless trouble now and then.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Lyon, his children, Brandie and Matthew Lyon (Katie), his siblings, Anita Rotert (Terry), Kathy Spinuzzi and James Lyon (Kay), his grandchildren, Taryn and Madison Anderson; Cassie and Henry Lyon.
He was preceded in death by—his mother and father, Dorothy and Willard (Bill) Lyon as well as his beloved dogs.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID. A Luncheon will follow services.
