Kirk Thomas Gunnell

Kirk T. Gunnell returned to his Heavenly Father on August 9, 2026, after a battle with cancer. The reunion in heaven must have been wonderful as he stepped across the veil to see his family.

Kirk was born on January 9, 1959, in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the fourth child of Lewis and Mary Gunnell. He had three older siblings, Arlene, Louette, and Craig, all of whom were considerably older than him. He grew up in Pocatello and lived there for most of his life. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an alumni of Pocatello High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Lewis-Clark State College.

Later in life, he married Natalie Hall. They had their first child, Matt, in March 1987 in Rexburg, Idaho. Kirk moved to Lewiston, Idaho, in 1987 to attend college, where they had two more children, Lindsey in December 1989 and Sierra in July 1991. His family moved back to Rexburg in 1994. His marriage ended in divorce a few years later.

He then moved back to Pocatello, where he lived for the next 28 years. He had many different jobs in trucking and driving semis. He loved having his kids over and watching movies with them. For many years, he enjoyed going to Pocatello High School football games and running the chains on the field. He loved fishing, camping, and the outdoors.

He moved to Twin Falls in 2023 to be closer to his daughter. Before he found out about the cancer, he had spent a few years doing home visits with people who had disabilities and special needs. He enjoyed being a part of his clients’ lives.

He enjoyed Star Trek, Star Wars, superhero movies, Highlander, and any other nerdy shows you can think of. He loved all rock music.

He became a grandpa in 2013 and has six grandchildren who will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his children, Matt Gunnell, Lindsey (Richard) Searle, and Sierra (Devan) Lyman; six grandchildren, December, Lily, Kennedy, Brigham, Addison, and Elanore; his sister, Arlene Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Lewis Gunnell; his brother, Craig Gunnell; and his sister, Louette Daniels.

Service will be held August 15th at 10am in the Wilks Funeral home in Chubbuck. With a viewing from 9:00 to 9:45 that day. Interment will follow at Rest Lawn Cemetery.
