Laverne Shaw Coburn passed away at her home in Pocatello, ID September 28, 2022, at the age of 93.
She was born June 6, 1929 – 15 minutes before her sister Larraine – to Alma Ray Shaw and Florence Turner. They lived in the beautiful Teton Valley until 11 years old, then moved to Jerome, ID when she graduated from high school.
She met her future husband Dean Coburn in Layton ID and later they were married 21 March 1949. They had two beautiful children – David & Debbie.
She worked four the Mackay School District for 35 years as a cook (when everything was prepared from scratch). She loved working at the school where she met and got to know all the kids. To this day a lot of them ask about her. She served in the temple as an ordinance worker for 34 years. She would drive over from Mackay once a week come rain or shine to serve. She loved serving in the temple and made lots of friends.
She held numerous positions in the church – Relief Society President for 6 years – Primary & MIA.
She was a member of the DUP – historical society. She loved to do Family History – this was her passion.
She loved the outdoors and keeping a beautiful yard. She was always serving others. She loved taking care of the calves.
She is survived by her son David Coburn of Mackay and her daughter Deborah Cates (Randy) of Pocatello; four grandchildren – Brian, Chelsy, Dave and Amber; nine great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dean Coburn, her parents Alma Ray and Florence Shaw and ten brothers and sisters. She has one surviving brother Terry Shaw (Kathleen).
There will be a viewing one hour before the service, Monday, October 3, 2022, at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 at the Fort Hall LDS Church Building. Interment will be in Mackay, Idaho.
