Lawrence Don Rawlins

July 8, 1946 — April 26, 2025

Pocatello

Lawrence Don Rawlins passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, early Saturday morning, April 26th after an extended illness.

Larry was born July 8, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho, to Lawrence and Edith Rawlins. He had a quintessential 1950’s childhood, riding horses, playing ball, and floating the canal. He was the salutatorian of the first graduating class of Highland High school in 1964. He served in the Spanish American mission in Texas and New Mexico from 1965-67 starting his life-long love of the Spanish language. Larry attended Idaho State University where he earned a degree in Accounting in 1971.

After graduating he worked for Burroughs Corporation. Computers and software were new technology, and there were no programming classes, so he was self-taught. Larry was very successful, receiving many sales awards. In 1975 he started his own business, Directive Data, where he developed his own suite of accounting software which he successfully sold to many cities and small businesses throughout the intermountain west. Larry single handedly operated his business right up to his death and many of his clients became good friends through the decades of dedicated service he provided.

On January 2, 1969 Larry married Patricia Wride in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they raised five amazing children. Their family has grown to include 32 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Larry was active, throughout his life, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent many years serving in various callings. He served as a young men's leader, bishop, and for nearly 20 years as a stake financial clerk.

He loved oreos, chocolate ice cream, hershey bars with almonds, working in his yard, playing softball, serving others, and most of all his family.

He is survived by his sweetheart Pat, and his children Kirk (Jackie) Rawlins, Valerie (Thane) Smith, Brett (Holly) Rawlins, Jessica (Peter) Johnson, Eric (Katy) Rawlins, as well as his sisters Carolyn (Dick) Winn, JeDeanne Thomas, Michelle (Brent) Lott. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence C. and Edith Rawlins, his brother Delbert Rawlins, and his grandson Jesse Rawlins.

Funeral Services for Larry will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Highland 2nd Ward, 2000 S. Fairway Drive, with Bishop Tim McDowell conducting. A viewing will be held at 10:00 am prior to the services. A viewing will also be held on Friday, May 2, from 6:00-8:00 pm, at the same address.
