Lois Ruth Coryell

June 16, 1931 — October 2, 2022

Lois Ruth Coryell passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022 in Pocatello, Idaho.  She was 91 years old.  Lois was born June 16, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey as the only child of Henry and Lucille Johnson.  She is survived by her five sons, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She lived a varied life full of travel, experiences and good friends that can be broken down into two parts.  In the first part she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Coryell, in 1951 at the age of 20.  She had given up a promising career at AT&T to follow him as the wife of an Air Force NCO.  They began their military and family life in Phoenix, Arizona; after which they were transferred to Kincheloe Air Force Base, Michigan; followed by Clark Air Force Base, the Philippines; then to Air National Guard Base, Portland; then onto Kingsley Field, Klamath Falls; followed by Bagotville CFB, Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada; then Edwards Air Force Base, California; before finally retiring back at Kingsley Field in 1972. They made Klamath Falls their home.

The second half of her life began as the nest began to empty and her children left home.  She started by taking her own dogs to evening dog training classes offered by Sue Cogley.  After all her dogs were trained, she continued by helping in the classroom by teaching others.  There she met Joanne Carson and they began working together.  She continued to expand her dog training knowledge and learn for many years, becoming more involved in local and statewide AKC dog shows.  Putting her life back together after a divorce in 1982, she started working as a receptionist at a Bowman Veterinarian Clinic to support herself.  She threw herself into her real passion which was dogs and dog training.  Finally in 1990 she partnered with Joanne Carson to create Double-C Dog Kennels.  For many years thereafter she continued to teach her methods to others.

Lois was a kind and honest person.  Quick to make friends and having a wonderful sense of humor.  She was easy to approach and put people at ease with a genuine eagerness to listen. Lois loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was an active member at First Presbyterian Church.  She worked with youth, loved her bible study groups and encouraged her friends to develop a relationship with Jesus.  We take great comfort in knowing she’s with the Lord today.  Never wealthy, she was nevertheless rich with the friends she made along the way and the adventures life dealt her.  Lois, we will miss you.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made in her name to the Klamath Animal Shelter.
