Pocatello

Louise Hiatt Brower Bowles of Twin Falls and Pocatello Idaho, passed away on September 12, 2025, at Quail Ridge Assisted Living Facility in Pocatello, Idaho.

Louise H. Brower Bowles was born in St. Anthony, Idaho on November 30th, 1930, the daughter of William E and Lettie Rose Hiatt. She was the youngest daughter of seven children. Her siblings were Bill, Carol, Arva, Melba, Bernice, and Lynn. Louise’s mom passed away when she was four years old leaving Louise to be raised by many different sisters and her Aunt Veda and Uncle Nathan. Louise’s childhood was very unstable, sad, and had many family illnesses.

Louise graduated from St Anthony High School in 1947, and married Ted Brower on April 30th, 1948, when she was 18 years old. They had six children. Ted and Louise divorced in 1964. She raised her children on the playgrounds in Pocatello, Idaho at Emerson School, Rainey Park and City Creek. Her children loved playing at these locations. As her children grew, they excelled in sports and cheerleading at Irving and Hawthorne Junior High and Pocatello High School. She said that being in the stands and watching her kids participate in sports was the highlight of her life.

Louise was a waitress at Gate City Pharmacy (current Hotel Yellowstone Restaurant) and owner of The Virginia Hot Spot where her Spud Nut Donuts were always in demand. She was one of Pocatello’s first female entrepreneurs.

Louise married H. Arlyn Bowles on August 25, 1973. This resulted in the merging of her son Michael Ray and Arlyn’s sons; Craig, Kirk, and Rick. Arlyn was the love of her life. They traveled a great deal in their Toyota Winnebago where they shared their love of camping and fishing. They eventually retired in Twin Falls, Idaho during which time Louise became an avid walker. She enjoyed going on her daily walks down the canyon. After Arlyn passed away, Louises daughter, Janet was transferred to Twin Falls and cared for Louise for 16 years.

Louise is survived by her children; Terry (Kathy), Randy (Mary Pat), Steve (Valerie), Janet, Michael (Kim Russell) Brower; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great- great -grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by all her siblings, daughter Rosie Brower, grandson Greg Brower and husband Arlyn.

Funeral services will be held at Wilks Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with a celebration to follow at the Hotel Yellowstone Restaurant, 230 W. Bonneville Street. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff of Quail Ridge and Heritage Hospice for all their help, care but mostly their kindness and compassion.
