It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of Lynn R. Van Every, 62. Lynn embarked on this final great adventure on June 4, 2026, after a morning spent with his wife and grandbabies and an evening at the ballpark.
The youngest of four children, Lynn was born in Rupert, Idaho, on February 1, 1964, to Judson J. and Janet L. Van Every. He attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Rupert, where he excelled in all sports and was a member of the first state championship team in baseball at Minico High School. After high school, he decided to focus on baseball in college.
He played two years for the College of Southern Idaho, where during his sophomore year he helped lead his team to a JUCO World Series Championship. He then played one year for Oklahoma City University before transferring to the University of Arkansas for his senior year. Lynn also played one summer in the Alaska League and one season of Rookie League baseball for the 1986 Salt Lake Trappers. Lynn was a passionate and relentless athlete, but above all, he valued and cherished the relationships he formed with his teammates and coaches.
Lynn married his high school sweetheart, Sherry, on June 14, 1986. Together they shared nearly 40 years of marriage and built a loving and meaningful life with their three children, Jordan, Breanne, and Ashlyn. Lynn loved being an involved father and grandfather. He loved watching his children succeed and was their biggest fan. He adored his grandchildren and had a special relationship with each one. "Papa Lynn" will be deeply missed.
For more than 30 years, Lynn worked for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality in the Surface Water Program, serving as Water Quality Manager overseeing Idaho's rivers and streams. He found great purpose in his work and was a passionate advocate for the Portneuf River and his community.
Lynn found his greatest joy in the mountains and shared that joy often with family and friends. He loved to hunt, hike, and ski among Idaho's many mountain ranges, with the Lost River Range and the Pahsimeroi Mountains holding a special place in his heart.
If it was winter, you could usually find Lynn on the backside of Pebble Creek with a few good buddies, always up for one more lap. He also enjoyed spending time on his road bike and found a new outlet for his competitive spirit later in life through cycling. He greatly valued the Pocatello cycling community and was active with Idaho Cycling Enthusiasts. In his spare time, Lynn enjoyed baking pies and muffins for the people in his life. His banana huckleberry muffins were a well-known staple among family and friends.
Lynn volunteered countless hours coaching baseball and helping improve the baseball facilities at Highland High School. He was incredibly influential in the Eastern Idaho baseball community, and his presence on the field will surely be missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Van Every.
He is survived by his father, Judson Van Every; his wife, Sherry; his son, Jordan Van Every (Christina); his daughter, Breanne Robinson (Shelton); his daughter, Ashlyn LaMont (Conner); and his beloved grandchildren, Ruby LaMont, Reggie Robinson, Van Robinson, and Rosie LaMont, all of Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by his siblings, Leann Moody (Layne) of Spanish Fork, Utah; Kerry Van Every (Kim) of Austin, Texas; and Paul J. Van Every (Jennifer) of Hailey, Idaho.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at the Mountain View Event Center, 1520 Way to Grace, Pocatello, ID. The service will be held on what would have been Lynn and Sherry's 40th wedding anniversary, a fitting tribute to the life and love they built together. A luncheon will be provided following the service.
