On September 22nd Madge Johnson Porter left this earth to join her husband and family members who have already departed. Madge was born February 20, 1938 to George and Ora Rohalt Johnson. She was the third child born to George and the first to Ora. She was married and sealed to Larry Earl Porter on June 22, 1956. They were blessed with five daughters; Susan (Jr. Wayas), Carol Spillett, Betty (Rodney Pierce), Kathy (Robert Musetti, Jr.), and Ann (James Helfrich, Jr.), 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren.
Madge loved riding her horse Lady, the outdoors, traveling, crocheting, canning, cooking, playing cards, and spending time with her family, working, hunting, camping, and fishing. Mom also enjoyed meeting her parents, brothers, and sister, for lunch visits.
Mom was raised on a ranch and had a black and white paint horse that she called Paint. She loved to ride through the country and her family’s ranch.
Madge loved to travel and her favorite places were the dessert and the beach not only for the warmth but the beautiful colors and terrain. She loved history, and when traveling to places, she studied up on them and was able to expand her traveling companion’s knowledge of them.
Mom enjoyed sending her daughters on an Easter egg hunt/trail using clues for her girls to find their loot. She and Larry really enjoyed watching their girls try to figure out each clue.
Mother had a goose named Quaker who hated everyone but her. Us girls learned we could either run or get a broom or something else close at hand to protect ourself.
At Christmas time mom would have her girls decorate the tree with her no matter if they did a poor job or not. She also taught them to paint pictures on the windows using a color book as a guide.
Mother and Dad taught all us girls to start a fire with one match even on a rainy day to make sure we could survive on our own if necessary.
Mom, Dad, and Annie, moved to California for work in 1986 and then moved back to Idaho in 1994 leaving Annie and her family in California. Mom missed leaving the ocean behind and the trips when the kids and grandkids came to visit and we all went to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, and of course the beach to hunt sea shells.
Mom supported us kids in all that we wanted to do and this included driving the big cattle truck with our horses in it to go for rides and 4-H.
Mother was a very giving person and was always helping each of us with whatever we needed. She will be greatly missed by all.
