Marlene led a life marked by artistic expression, musical passion, and deep dedication to her family and community.
Marlene’s life was enriched by her exceptional talents in the arts. Throughout much of her life, she was known as a gifted artist, skillfully working in charcoal and ceramics. Music was another profound part of her identity; she was not only a passionate singer but also a versatile musician who played guitar, piano, and mandolin. Her passion for music extended into her education, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education, exemplifying her commitment to the power of music in enriching lives.
Marlene spent her working days, from college to retirement, at Idaho State University as a Switchboard Operator, later termed Telephone Information Specialist. There she was responsible for putting the yearly campus phone book together for print and connecting people to the correct departments and/or personnel. She knew every department head, professor, and extensions by memory. She excelled at her job with as much focus and passion as she did everything else in her life.
Her commitment to community and service was equally notable. Marlene was a Majority Member of Bethel 32 of Job’s Daughters, and she served with distinction as a past Worthy Matron of both Radiant and Ruth Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star. Devoted to youth mentorship, she was a dedicated Chapter Mom to the Roy F. Kirchner Chapter of DeMolay. Her warm spirit also shone through in her volunteer work as a face painter for the Shrine Clowns of Pocatello, bringing smiles and joy to many.
Marlene’s personal life was marked by enduring love and family bonds. She first married Ricky Don Moore, with whom she had two children: Darrin, born in 1976, and Gina, born in 1977. Tragically, Ricky Don Moore passed away on December 4, 1977. In 1981, Marlene met Stanley Wallerstedt, whom she married in 1985. Through this union, she embraced a stepdaughter, Lisa LaRue, blending their family with love and unity. Marlene and Stanley shared 45 years together, a testament to their lasting companionship.
Marlene is survived by her beloved husband, Stanley Wallerstedt; her daughter, Gina Moore; her stepdaughter, Lisa (Brad) LaRue; two brothers, Gary Cox and Robert Neick; as well as her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her biological and adoptive parents, her first husband Ricky Don Moore, her son Darrin Moore, and her brother Gaylen Cox.
Marlene Neick Wallerstedt’s life was a remarkable blend of artistry, music, devotion, and kindness. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, her community, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
