Dr. Mary Kathleen Cadwalder 1943-2025
Kathy was a caring and fun-loving person, who led a life marked by sacrifice for others. Mary Kathleen Cadwalder, 82, of Boise, ID went to be with the Lord May 6, 2025. She was born outside Miami, FL during World War II to Dr. Elmo McClay and Onieda McClay. She was raised in Springfield, IL. She spent most of her life in the Houston, TX area. She is survived by her sister Martha Carole Cleveland and her son Jason Anstrand and their families.
Kathy loved Jesus, her family, her patients, and animals above all else. After completing her undergraduate degree, she worked as a teacher and was married to David Anstand and they had her only child, Jason. She later completed her LMSW and Doctor of Public Health from UT-Houston. While in school, she met and married Dr. Roger Cadwalder. Together they started Cadwalder Behavioral Center and later were partners in Lone Star Behavioral Health. Kathy had a huge heart for people struggling with addiction and mental illness. She worked tirelessly in these areas throughout her life. She was able to merge her passions and started one of the first equine assisted psychotherapy centers in the Gulf Coast.
Her family called her “the most interesting woman in the world”. In addition to her professional career, she was a pilot, marathon runner, horseback rider, lover of German Shorthair Pointers, and could never say, “no” to an adventure. She later moved to Idaho, where she loved spending time at the Yellow Jacket Ranch in the Idaho backcountry with her family and dog “July”.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, which ultimately, she succumbed to. Despite more than a decade-long battle, she remained an active part of her community and the lives of her grandchildren Amelia and Charlie Anstrand. Kathy will be remembered for an infectious positive love for ALL those around her and a creative desire to better the lives of folks in her reach.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel, 123 S Auto Dr. Boise, ID 83709 on Friday, June 6, 2025 from 4-6pm. There will also be a memorial service held in Tomball, Texas in July. The details will be announced.
