Mary Jo Lucero

Mary Jo Lucero was born into the world fighting on June 21, 1956, in Blackfoot, Idaho. She was not expected to live a long life from the very start. Defying all odds, she went on to live a long, loving life, passing away just one day shy of her birthday at 69 years and 364 days old. She was surrounded by love, happiness, open arms, and a huge family. As the baby of the family, she quickly showed everyone that she was "large and in charge." Despite her lifelong health issues, she possessed a fierce, independent spirit and the biggest, kindest heart—attributes that never slowed her down or stopped her from living life to the fullest. She was a proud graduate of Highland High School, Class of 1974. She shared her life's journey with her lifelong, loving partner, Allen Brett Edwards.

A woman of many vibrant interests, she created Mary Jo's Stop & Shop, creating macramé, and going fishing. She was a self-proclaimed "gamblin' woman" who thoroughly enjoyed card games, "McGyvering" things around the house, and above all else, spending precious time with her family. Her pride and joy were her family. Special mention and deepest gratitude are extended to her daughter, Marcie "Kat" Edwards, for being her dedicated caregiver and her unwavering rock through all of life's storms. The family also wishes to extend a special thank you to her son-in-law for his constant love and exceptional care.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered for her incredible strength, infectious joy, and beautiful smile. Her family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her daughter, Marcie, for being her dedicated caregiver and her unwavering rock through all of life's storms, and to her son-in-law, Florencio, for his constant love and exceptional care.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and a beautifully large family who will cherish her memory forever. She is survived by her daughter, Marcie "Kat" Edwards, and her son-in-law, Florencio Antonio Zamora IV, both of Pocatello, ID; Brothers Stan "Jr" Lucero (Burley, ID), Vic Lucero (Pocatello, ID), Ben Lucero (Salt Lake City, UT), Richard Lucero (Sun Valley, CA), and sister Anne Millar and her husband Jerry (Salt Lake City, UT); Great-niece Mackenzie Lucero (Pocatello, ID), Jaiden Vanderploeg and her partner Derek (Pocatello, ID), Danny West (Wisconsin), and many more beloved adopted children over the years, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who became family.

She has been reunited with many loved ones with open and loving arms. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nelly Chaves; her father, Stan Lucero; her lifelong partner, Allen Edwards; brothers, Chris Lucero, Bob Lucero, and Nic Lucero; sister-in-law, Doris Lucero; her beloved granddaughter, Saphire Rose Edwards; and her great-nephew, Bodhi Safford-Woolstenhulme. She was also welcomed at the Rainbow Bridge by her loyal pets: Buffy, Darkness, and Dutch.

Mary Jo wanted to keep things simple. In place of flowers, the family would be grateful for any contributions to help with funeral expenses. Donations may be made through Wilks Funeral Home (208-238-8000).
