Michael Terrance Lewis

Heaven opened its doors on June 10, 2026, to so much laughter when Michael Lewis was telling some crazy, weird stories. One of Mike's gifts was to draw you in with his humor that was sometimes bloviated.

Mike had tons of grit when he had obstacles to face. It came in handy when he was diagnosed with dementia in 2009. He fought this disease with dignity and grace.

Mike worked for United Parcel Service for 31 years. He had a great group of friends that enjoyed traveling, boating, and fishing.

Mike loved the water and he never missed the opportunity to gather his wife, Daylene, and step-children Boe and Nikole, to enjoy a day at the reservoir. One trip was especially eventful. When heading home, Mike looked up and the family dog had been left, or so he thought. He proceeded to turn the boat around when he noticed Mandy, the dog, was in the water swimming towards the boat. The dog was rescued and all was well.

Mike’s uncle Jack occupied a special place in Mike’s childhood. He would spend his summers in Ketchikan, Alaska on a fishing boat with Jack. Mike was like an encyclopedia when he got home to Pocatello telling about his experiences with his uncle. He told these stories all of his life, especially the story about the grizzly bear that was inches away from him. His childhood was right out of a Tom Sawyer novel. He did wild and crazy things with his friends from Highland High School, and kept in touch with these friends up until his dementia advanced.

Mike was a lover of dogs. He especially loved Kristy, his standard poodle. He would tell the groomers that he wanted a certain color of nail polish when he would take her in for grooming. He treated her like a diva. Mike also welcomed friends into his home with his gourmet dinners he created by watching The Food Channel on T.V. It was a treat for his friends and family. His best dish was Shepard’s Pie.

Mike’s wife, Daylene, was his best friend. They were married for 46 years. He always made her feel supported in her endeavors. They never had children together, but he would often say that she was his baby. When talking to a relative a few weeks ago, he was asked, “What makes you happy?” and Mike said, “Daylene!”

He is survived by his wife, Daylene Lewis of Pocatello, ID; step-children Nikole (Chris) Mazarati of Scottsdale, AZ; Boe (Jodie) Simmons of Pocatello, ID; his son Matt Price of Texas; granddaughters Jordan Mazarati, Morgan Simmons, Drew Simmons; and his brother Terry Lewis of Pocatello, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Fred Lewis, and brother Kevin Lewis.

Mike requested no services, but to have his ashes spread at Lakeside Lodge in his beloved Island Park, Idaho.

As Shakespeare put it, “All the world’s a stage, and we all play a part.” Mike started his part on January 8, 1949, in Pocatello, Idaho, and ended the final scene on June 10, 2026, at age 77.
