Mona Aldene Reece, 89, passed away on July 9, 2026.

Mona Aldene Alexander Reece was born on October 15th, 1936, in Kimberly, Idaho to Alton M Alexander and Rula Morgan Alexander. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Alton M, Alexander, Richard Morgan Alexander, and her son Ronald Dean Reece. She is survived by her husband Norman Grant Reece, her children: Norman Grant Reece Jr., Kalyn Reece Burton, Keith Alton Reece, William David Reece, and Curtis Morgan Reece as well as son-in-law Terry Burton, daughters-in-law Joy Reece, Tonna Reece, Tracy Coffman, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren with two additional who just recently met their Great-Grandma.

Autumn had settled over Kimberly, Idaho, on October 15, 1936. Frost lay like so much gossamer over the Magic Valley as Mona Aldene graced the world. It was a Thursday.

Born to Alton M Alexander and Rula Morgan Alexander, Mona joined her big brothers, Alton and Richard, who became her protectors and conspirators in fun. Even in those early years, the love that would define Mona could be seen in the tender care she gave her cats - a quiet gentleness that remained throughout her life.

Mona graduated from Pocatello High and attended Idaho State College where she was awarded an honorary degree in physics. Yet science was never among her great loves. Our Heavenly Father, however, had one more use for physics: while Mona was working as the office manager for Prudential Insurance, she met a physics student named Norman Grant Reece.

Mona and Norman were truly a dynamic force. They became known among lifelong friends as pranksters. As joy bloomed in the couple’s life, Norman proposed.

On April 24, 1959, under a promising spring sky, Mona and Norman were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. The deep purr of their 1955 Bel Air Chevy’s engine - their “courting car,” as Mona so fondly called it - carried them that day into a future of love and family.

For 70 years Mona and Norman were seldom apart. With kindness and love, Mona helped her boys advance in the Priesthood, earn their Eagle Scouts, and guided her daughter in pursuit of her Young Woman’s Medallion. Each of her children served a mission. And of course, there were grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mona faithfully served her many callings in: Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society, Mutual (Young Women), Ward Primary, Ward Primary President as well the Relief Society President, and the Stake Relief Society President. Mona and Norman served together for 20 years in the same temple that sealed their love and their family together. In 1997, Mona and Norman served in the Chicago, Illinois Mission.

Truly the love of her life was her husband, her family, her home, her garden - and quietly, her roses. It is there we will meet her again amongst the corals, the pinks, the golden yellows of forever blooms, waiting with her parents, her brothers, one son, and the myriad of pets that welcomed her with her Savior. Rest easy for on that quiet Thursday, the promise of the Magic Valley was fulfilled by a loving, faithful daughter.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 330 E Chapel Road, Pocatello, ID. Viewings will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, July 17 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID and prior to the service on Saturday at the church, beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S 5th Avenue, Pocatello, ID.
