Phyllis Christine Evans, 79, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Chubbuck, Idaho, on September 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Phyllis was born to Donald and Rose Cook on August 27, 1947, in Paul, Idaho. She was the third of four children and was raised in Pocatello, where she attended local schools and graduated from Highland High School.
Phyllis met William "Bill" Evans while he was in the area for training with the United States Navy at the Naval Reactors Facility. They were married on April 2, 1967, beginning more than 59 years of life together.
During Bill's Navy service, they made their home in Charleston, South Carolina, while he served aboard the USS Lewis and Clark (SSBN-644) with the Blue Crew, completing five patrols. Following his Navy service, Bill and Phyllis returned to Pocatello, Idaho, where they made their home.
Bill and Phyllis were blessed with two daughters, Lesley Dawn Miles (Travis Tillman) and Karalee Ann Maldonado (Moises); three grandchildren, Robert Miles, Jordon Miles (Haley), and Miguel Maldonado (Elizabeth); and two great-grandchildren, Kaliesha Reynolds and Kingston Reynolds, who were the light of her life.
Throughout her life, Phyllis held many jobs, including serving as a preschool teacher at Grace Lutheran Early Childhood Center and as supervisor of the Hot Lunch Program at Grace Lutheran School, where she remained until her retirement.
Phyllis was a gentle soul who loved her family deeply. She treasured camping and time around the campfire, fishing, reading to her grandchildren, loving on her grandpuppies, and watching her Atlanta Braves play. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Phyllis never let a visit or conversation end without saying, "Love you." It didn't matter who you were those words came naturally to her and reflected the love and kindness she shared with everyone around her.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Faith Lutheran Church, 856 W Eldredge Road, Pocatello, ID.
