R. George Dahms, 76, passed away on August 25, 2026.
George “Randy” was a man of quiet devotion, endless curiosity, and a lifetime of remarkable service. Born and raised in the close-knit farming community of Winnebago, Minnesota (population 1,100), his story was defined by his deep love for his family, a sharp mind, and decades of dedication to his country.
After graduating high school in Minnesota, Randy answered the call to serve by joining the United States Navy. His 22-year naval career took him around the globe, turning him into a world traveler with a lifetime of unforgettable stories. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to the nation for another 23 years with the Department of Defense. True to his character, he eventually stepped away from his career to care for his father, Elmer, whom he loved dearly.
A lifelong learner always in search of new knowledge, Randy earned a degree from Cerro Coso Community College, celebrating a rare and cherished milestone by graduating alongside his daughter, Carly. He also applied his sharp, analytical mind for many years assisting others at H&R Block.
Though his service took him around the world—and through stations in Miramar, Whidbey Island, Ridgecrest, and eventually Chubbuck, Idaho—his true anchor was his family. On August 24, 1983, he married the love of his life, Yolanda. Together they built 43 years of a deeply loving, caring, and wonderful marriage; Yolanda considers herself immensely blessed to have shared her life with him.
Randy was content without formal clubs or fraternal memberships; his true membership was his inner circle: Yolanda, Doug and Susan, Carly and Ben, Crystal, Jeremy, and his treasured world of family. A man of many passions, he loved reading, movies, collecting, video games, and diving enthusiastically into whatever caught the interest of Ivan and Jax.
He is survived by his sister, Char (Bruce) Bartels and their family. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sandy (Ron) Tolzman.
Special thanks and deepest gratitude to Steve and Chris Roberts (for everything), Barbara Ford, Rosi, and Tim Owen for their unwavering support and friendship.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID. A gathering will be held prior beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow the service at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 2651 Cromwell Lane, Blackfoot, ID.
