Randall "Randy" Lewis

June 2, 1949 — May 21, 2025

Lava Hot Springs

Randall (Randy) Neil Lewis, 75, passed away May 21, 2025 at his home in Lava Hot Springs after a long battle with cancer.

He was born June 2, 1949 in Blackfoot, Idaho as the first of seven children to Harry Neil Lewis and Dorothy Affie Rowe Lewis. He was raised in Blackfoot for the first few years and then the family relocated to Pocatello and he spent most of his childhood at the house on Linden. He spoke and wrote of many fond memories of his childhood and being raised in such a large family. He remembered playing in the tree house for hours and playing Pony Express where he usually got to be the rider and writer (for the smaller kids). He credited his parents for giving him a strong work ethic which was incredibly important to him. Everyone was expected to help around the house and there was no such thing as boy jobs and girl jobs. If it needed to be done, you were expected to help.

Randy worked from a very young age. He worked summers doing farm work for Dale Wood and Eldon Young in the Blackfoot area. During the school year he worked at National Laundry as a driver and in the main laundry. After graduating from Highland High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force from June of 1968 to February of 1972 serving in Arizona, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. After the Air Force, he briefly worked for Union Pacific Railroad from 1972-1973. It was then that he found his career and joined the Pocatello Fire Department where he worked from 1973 until his retirement in 1998. Retirement consisted of ranching and continued real estate investments which he had great skill and passion for. One of his regrets in life was not buying more land sooner.

In October of 1973, Randy met Alice Robinson at Jake’s Bar in Pocatello, Idaho. The two were married in March of 1974 and together raised three daughters in the Pocatello and McCammon area. Randy and Alice enjoyed many years together and especially loved traveling in their retirement. They went on cruises all over the world including one special three week trip to New Zealand and Australia.

When asked about what brought him joy, Randy mentioned that he loved reading. He was an avid reader of mostly fiction, but enjoyed all types of genres. He also loved hunting as it was his way of connecting with nature and recharging his batteries. Not surprisingly, he mentioned that work brought him great joy and,to him, doing something productive was living.

Randy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Lewis; 3 Daughters Janet (Lyle) Barnes, Lisa (Jeremy) Mangum, and Olivia (Steven) Coburn; Sister Peggy (Ralph) Johnson, Sister Jacque (Jim) Boyce, and brother Barry (Charlotte) Lewis; 4 Grandchildren Rieley Turner, Vydelia Turner, Neiley Mangum and Parker Mangum; one great granddaughter Austyn Rees; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Dorothy Lewis; and brothers Larry Lewis, Rick Lewis, and Wayne Lewis.

Urn burial will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 1 pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Blackfoot, 2651 Cromwell Lane, Blackfoot, ID 83221. A Celebration of Randy's Life will be held the same day, at his home, 13092 Creekside Cir, Lava Hot Springs, ID 83246, starting at 4:30 pm.
