Richard Rust

Richard Rust, 76, of Ketchum, Idaho, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at his home in Ketchum, Idaho, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was a beloved husband, father, and dear friend to many.

Richard was born on October 16, 1949, in San Diego. He earned his degrees in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, before making the move to Sun Valley in 1976. There, he became a familiar and cherished part of the community as the owner of Jesse’s Restaurant for 20 years.

Richard later used his master’s degree in biology to begin a subsequent career in sales for a company specializing in cell biology research, where he built many lasting professional relationships through his knowledge and enthusiasm for the field.

Richard had a deep love for the mountains and the outdoors. He enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing, and water skiing, and was a proud member of the 100 Day Ski Club for many years. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and the many friendships he built throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving wife; Kathryn “Kathy” Rust, and his daughters; Lauren Rust and Allyson Rust.

Richard’s presence, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
