Robert (Bob) Wayne Stone, 88, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away in the early morning of Friday, May 15th, 2026.
Robert was born in Butte, Montana to Wayne and Frances Stone. After a few years in Montana, the family moved to Pocatello, Idaho. Bob’s growing up years were spent with his siblings – Richard, Marylinn, James, and Leilani. Growing up in Pocatello was full of memorable friends for Bob, Benny Lane being at the top of that list. Education was always a serious matter for Bob, excelling at every level into his college days at Idaho State University.
One might argue that Bob’s amazing life story began after meeting Geraldine Eleanor Spicer, the two were married on December 17, 1954. Bob was soon enrolled at Idaho State University. In true Bob fashion, he took on a herculean load, working full-time and carrying twenty credit hours. Bob could not do the impossible, he flunked out of school and had to cut back on his class load. After fine tuning his work/school load, he did quite well in school, never looking back as he graduated from college in 1961. Bob and Geraldine were the proud parents of six children – Robin Blake, James Marshall, Gene Michael, Gregory Lloyd, Stephanie Laurette, and Regan Francis. Bob was blessed with twenty grandchildren, (Jesse, Corey, Jamii, Buck, Jacq, Marcie, Sydney, Stephanie, Tamara, Kendra, Spencer, Carly, Jacob, Cody, Mykle, Mykensie, Courtney, Madisen, Jarom and Michaella), and thirty-five great-grandchildren.
Bob moved his family to Crescent City, CA in 1961. That was the beginning of a successful career in education. After a few years in Crescent City, Bob moved the family to Portland, Oregon, where he spent the rest of his career teaching in the David Douglas and Lynch/Centennial school districts. Bob was dedicated to his six children’s many activities, which included sports, sports, and more sports. There was a little music snuck in there as well! All of Bob’s children loved seeing him in the crowd at every game – baseball, football, basketball, track, cross-country, tennis, and cheerleading. Bob was honored by the Centennial High School Track and Field program for his many years of volunteer support for the program. Bob’s unwavering support continued as his twenty grandchildren excelled in sports, music, and other activities. Bob became a very accomplished runner later in life, competing in the Hood to Coast relay race with his children and grandchildren.
Bob’s passion for education was felt by all who knew him. The support and encouragement he offered to his countless students was a true indicator of his love for education. Bob’s support for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s education changed their lives.
A quality that stood out in Bob’s life was his kindness and compassion for family and friends. The last several years of his mother’s life were spent by her bedside offering care and comfort to her. Bob dedicated the last several years of Geraldine’s life to offering comfort and care to her. Family will be forever grateful for Bob’s Christ-like service to those he loved. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine, parents Wayne and Francis Stone, brothers Richard and James, Sister Marylinn, sons Robin, James, and Gene.
