Rodney Shane Block

Rodney Shane Block, 58, passed away on July 17, 2026.

Rodney Shane Block was born on October 3, 1967, in Jerome, Idaho, to Marlin Block and Shirley Black. Rodney was raised on his family farm in Jerome, Idaho, where he loved the hard work and raising hell. He loved hunting, fishing, snow skiing, and water skiing. He graduated from Jerome High School in 1985. He joined the military and served in the Gulf War as an aircraft electrician. After eight years of service, Rodney returned to Idaho, where he worked numerous jobs until he started mining in Nevada. After years of being away, he decided to move closer to his son and family in Pocatello, Idaho.

Rodney is survived by his son, Andrew (Emily) Block, and his two cherished granddaughters, Brinley and Mallory Block; son, Casper (Mataya) Block; mother, Shirley (Mike) Mason; uncles, Donnie Black and Jimmie Black; aunts, Sue Black, Diana (Clay) Davis, Jannie (Toby) Walgamott, and Wendy (Stacy) Robinson; and numerous cousins whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marlin Block; grandparents, Sam and Ann Block; uncle, Howard Block; aunt, Bonnie Block; grandparents, Russell and Ruby Black; uncle, Bill Black; and cousin, Deb Higgins.

Rodney was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. Rodney's granddaughters were the highlight of his life. He loved nothing more than teasing and playing with them. He was reminded often, "Don't poke the bear." Rodney loved life and people; he was always willing to lend a hand. Until we meet again, you will be forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts.

Private services are being held at Jerome Cemetery. 

A Celebration of Life and Potluck will be held at 12:00pm on October 3, 2026 at the Jerome Elks Lodge, 412 E 200 S, Jerome, ID 83338. Please bring a dish to share!
