Roy Gene Summers

Roy Gene Summers passed away in his home with his wife Dian by his side on September 16, 2026. Gene was born on January 11, 1927 to Abraham Roy and Julia Fern Summers.

Gene was drafted into the United States Army May 25, 1945 during World War II and was honorably discharged December 6, 1946 as a corporal. He married Lucille Backlund on October 22, 1945 and they started their family with Dan, Delbert, Susan, and Karen, who were raised in the Idaho Falls area. Gene worked for Challenge Dairy for 45 years, delivering milk throughout Idaho.

Gene met and married Dian Christiansen on July 23, 1976 bringing their families together with Dian’s daughters, Denette and Rebecca.

Gene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings over the years. He and Dian served missions in the Idaho Falls Temple, Church Employment Services, and Deseret Industries. Gene loved to camp, fish, go for walks, and work on his crossword puzzles. He truly loved the countless hours spent on the phone with family and the memories made together.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Dian, Dan (Shirley) Summers, Delbert (Sally) Summers, Susan (Ivan) Brower, Karen Culbertson, Denette (Richard) Wolfe, Rebecca (Mike) Treasure, and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Abraham Roy and Julia Fern Summers, daughter Janet, his siblings, his brothers-in-law, his son-in-law, and his granddaughter Melissa Allen.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1700 Kinghorn Drive, Pocatello, ID. Viewings will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, September 25 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, Idaho and prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho 83204.
