With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mother and Grandmother, Ruby Catherine Bailey, on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the age of 98. She was a wonderful lady full of joy, laughter, wisdom, and love for both family and friends. She was a cherished member of her community and LDS Church, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Vincent, son, John Frederick, and one great grandson, Ryker. She leaves behind her eldest son, Carl and wife Iris, grandchildren Kathy (Blair), Richard (Heidi), Thomas (Tiffany), Michael (Angela), Jeffrey (Jamie), and Steven (Ann), son James and wife Rebecca, grandchildren Kaitlin and Rachel, and youngest son Joseph and wife Lois, grandchildren Robert (Stephanie), Krystle, James, Dallen (Lizzy), and Kyra, 27 Great-grandchildren, and one sister, Ada Carr, who just turned 100 in April.
Ruby was born in Anna, Ohio, on November 16, 1925 to father, William Frederick Weissinger and mother, Alma Viola Goelzer. She was the seventh in a line of four boys and five girls. She graduated from Anna High School in 1943. Immediately after graduation, Ruby went to work in a war factory where she helped to build airplane wings. She was an original “Rosie the Riveter”.
On March 2,1946, Ruby married Robert Vincent Bailey and moved to Quincy, Ohio. Their first son, Carl, was born in Quincy. A year later, the young family moved to Bellefontaine, Ohio where they had three more sons, John, James, and Joseph. In 1961, the family moved to Anaheim, California, where Robert worked for several companies before settling with Hughes Aircraft, and Ruby worked for over 20 years at Quickset Lock Company. In 1982, both Ruby and Robert decided to retire. They packed up their lives and moved to a quiet log cabin in the hills outside of Pocatello, Idaho. They loved it there, but after the first winter, they became snowbirds and spent their winters in Quartsite, Arizona. During the spring and summer months of 1983 and ’84, Ruby became a temporary foster care provider for newborn babies. In 2002, they moved to Chubbuck, Idaho.
Ruby was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and canning, growing roses and flowers, and collecting china and antiques. Most of all, Ruby enjoyed her family, friends, and lovable dogs, Suzie and Scooter. Her home was full of good food, constant laughter, and memorable stories.
To commemorate Ruby’s remarkable life, a service will be held on Friday, July 19 at the LDS Chapel, 147 Bringhurst Street, Chubbuck at 11:00 AM with a viewing at 9:30 to 10:45.
Additional viewing on Thursday, July 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the same Chapel. We invite all who knew Ruby to join us in remembering a truly elegant lady.
