Sarah G Cole, 85, passed away on June 1, 2025. Sarah, known to her friends and family as Sadie, was born on December 4, 1939 in Edinburgh, Scotland to William and Sarah Gillan.
Just Three months and 3 days before Sadie was born Nazi Germany invaded Poland. With WWII setting the stage for the early foundational years of her life experience Sadie remembered all too clearly the sound of air-raid sirens and emergency claxons ringing out, sending everyone scrambling for shelter.
As Sadie grew older, she found books and developed a great love for reading, finding much comfort in books; a love she nurtured throughout her life. Sadie was always industrious, and as soon as she was allowed, she went to work for a clothing store named Jenners. She there found she had a decided talent for sales while also displaying great poise and grace; so much so that at 16 her employers asked her to model wedding dresses.
When she was 18 years old, she met a handsome American Air Force Code Breaker at a girlfriend’s house. He pursued and she fell in love and at 19 Sadie left Scotland for Baton Rouge, Louisianna where she married Jimmie Rogers Cole. To this union three children were born: Rebecca Ann, Matthew Adrian, and Andrew Christopher.
She and Jimmie would divorce in 1970 though Jimmie would continue to watch out for her “from the sidelines” for the rest of his life. Following their separation, in 1970, Sadie Joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sadie truly loved music and was an extremely gifted mezzo soprano singing in choirs and performing solos often. Sadie loved the Lord and was dedicated to serving others. Also, in 1970 Sadie went to work for Dillard’s department store and during her very first year of working she sold in excess of $100,000 worth of clothing. After many years of working for Dillard’s, Sadie began working for the East Baton Rouge School District as a teacher's Aid. In 1982 being a true Scottish Lass and having NO love for the heat and humidity of Louisianna, she moved to Pocatello, a place with cold weather and mountains, much more like her Homeland of Scotland. She then went back to work for Dillard’s in Pocatello, Idaho, then some years later she would work for Desert Industries as a sales floor Supervisor. She worked for Desert Industries for 12 years. She would go on and retire after that.
Sadie was a friend to everyone she met with a helping hand for anyone in need of whatever she could provide or with and a sympathetic ear for those she could help in no other way. She was a kind and gentle, loving mother.
Sadie was preceded by her father, William (about 1947); mother, Sarah (2004); son, Andrew Christopher (Drew) (2017); and former husband, Jimmie Rogers Cole (2020). She is survived by a sister, Patricia Jobson of Elon, Scotland; brother, William (Billy) (wife Terri) of Fife; Scotland; niece, Debbie Barclay (Greg); nephew, Derek Jobson of Elon, Scotland; Paul Gillan of Dunfermline, Scotland; daughter, Rebecca (Clif) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Matthew Cole of East Baton Rouge, Louisianna; grandson, Blair (Kristine) Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Landon, Anisley and Mattis Johnson of Queen Creek, Arizona; granddaughter, Karli Cole of Pocatello, Idaho and Declan Davis of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Sadie was Dearly Loved by friends and family alike and was a truly Great Spirit who will be missed in this life and warmly received in the next.
