Shirley Nadine Villano

Shirley Nadine Villano, born December 6, 1930, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on July 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Joseph Villano, who passed away July 7, 2019, and her beautiful daughter, Lisa Marie Villano, who passed away June 27, 2007. 

Shirley was born at home on a very rustic farm near Page, Nebraska, to Leona Stauffer French and Clifford Douglas French. Shirley had two older brothers, Dean and Thane; one younger sister, Colleen; and a younger brother, Gregg. Shirley's family moved to Lamberton, Minnesota, in 1944.

Shirley received her teaching certificate in 1949. She taught all eight grades in a red brick schoolhouse with indoor toilets and electric heat. That was such a treat in those days! The schoolhouse still stands to this day. 

Shirley met Paul in Seattle, Washington, while Paul was in the Army. They dated via bus as they had no car. That is when they took golf lessons, which became a part of their social life for years. They were married on October 10, 1953, and then moved to Denver, Colorado. They moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1966. In 1972 they made Pocatello, Idaho, their home, where they lived for more than five decades. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. 

Shirley was involved in PEO, loved crafting, sewing, baking and cooking, and golfing with Paul. She learned to make all of the Italian dishes that Paul loved. She was a caregiver to her family. 

Shirley (mom) is lovingly remembered by her children: Mark Paul Villano (Susan); Christine Villano Iba (Timothy); Monica Villano Martin (William); Paula Jeane Villano Laggis (Paul); along with her 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sister Colleen Brush, brother Thane French, brother Gregg French (Mary Nell). Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she gave them will continue to live on through each of them. 

Those who knew Shirley will remember her warmth, her caring heart, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life. She found joy in cooking for her friends and family, and created a home filled with love and lasting memories. 

Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited with her husband, Paul, and her daughter Lisa. Her life was a blessing, and her love a gift that will never be forgotten. 

We all miss you so much, mom. We are grateful you are at peace, and in the hands of our Lord. 

The Celebration of Life will be held on August 29, 2026, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.,, at the Juniper Hills Country Club. At the request of the family, no flowers or gifts, please.
