Stephen Lamoni Muir, Jr., 87, peacefully passed away on March 20, 2026, surrounded by his five children, and returned home to that God who gave him life.
Stephen was born on September 16, 1938, in Chesterfield, Idaho, to Stephen Lamoni Muir and Mona Dee Burton. He grew up alongside five siblings and spent his early years in Lava Hot Springs, Blackfoot, and Burley before his family settled in American Falls, where he graduated from American Falls High School in 1956.
Following graduation, Stephen was drafted into the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country for six years, including time in Germany and Lebanon. After completing his military service, he returned to American Falls, where he met the love of his life, Alice LaRue Christensen. They were married on October 16, 1965, in Pocatello, Idaho, and later sealed for time and all eternity on April 1, 1968, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Together, Steve and LaRue built a loving family and were blessed with five children: Stephen Lamoni III, Theron-Ray, Pollyanna, Brian, and Rebecca.
Steve was a skilled and dedicated truck driver, earning numerous awards in recognition of his excellence and professionalism. When he was not on the road, he found joy in tending his garden, taking pride in its beauty and generously sharing its harvest with friends and neighbors.
He had a deep love for the outdoors, shaped in his youth while working with his Uncle Johnny in the Grays Lake area. Later, he shared that love with his wife and children through camping, fishing, and motorcycle riding. After their children were grown, Steve and LaRue continued their adventures together, traveling throughout the western United States, including trips to Arizona and a memorable journey to Alaska to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Steve was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found great joy in serving as a Primary teacher, a calling that was especially dear to him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaRue; his parents; his sisters, Ada Dee and Patricia; and his brothers, Eldon and Max.
He is survived by his children: Stephen Lamoni III; Theron-Ray (Sunny); Pollyanna (Kurt); Brian (Nicki); and Rebecca (Larry); his sister, Linda (Gary); 15 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Symbii Hospice, as well as to the many loving family members, ward members, and friends who provided support and care.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the LDS Church located at 1701 Bartz Drive in Pocatello, Idaho. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Chesterfield Cemetery.
