Sylvan Lowell Morgan, 90, passed away April 21, 2026, at his home in Chubbuck, Idaho. Sylvan who was known most of his life as “Syl” was born July 6, 1935, in Preston, Idaho to Ezra Burnath Morgan and Myrtle Whitney Morgan. He was the 6th of 7 children including Burns, Chuck, Marion, Merlyn, Keith and Christie. He lived and worked on the family farm in Weston, Idaho and attended Schools in Weston and Dayton, Idaho graduating from Westside High School in 1953. While in high school Sylvan was a lettered athlete in boxing and football.
Sylvan married the love of his life, Carma Jean Povey, April 23, 1954, in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They raised 5 children together in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area, Kathy (George) Orr, Lyle (Lisa) Morgan, Doug (KathySue) Morgan, Teresa (Curt) Newman, and Rich (Sandra) Morgan. During his long life, he had the privilege of seeing 27 grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren added to his continuously growing family.
Sylvan was a hard worker and after his marriage obtained work for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Salem Oregon. After 4 years there he transferred to Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Pocatello Idaho. There he worked as a cable lineman, telephone installer, and in management for 35 years. He excelled as a repairman, enjoyed the outdoor work and answered service calls from Montpelier to Montana covering all of Eastern Idaho. One of the biggest projects he had was working to restore communications to the upper Snake River Valley after the Teton Dam broke in 1976.
He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing in areas of Eastern and Central Idaho.
Sylvan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, most notably as a ward finance clerk for several bishops spanning over 20 years.
He was a voracious reader and storyteller and enjoyed creating poems and little ditties for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, a talent he learned from his mother. He began drawing early in life and picked up a paint brush later in life. He preferred oil painting. He focused on outdoor scenes, farm buildings, trains, and creeks.
In all areas of his life, Sylvan was a craftsman with talent, skill, persistence and success in the many projects he chose. He loved his yard and garden growing quality produce, beautiful trees and flowers. His Iris gardens were particularly beautiful.
