Terry Douglas Stalder

June 19, 1952 — March 14, 2026

Pocatello

Terry Douglas Stalder, 73, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on March 14, 2026, after a short illness.

Terry was born on June 19, 1952, in Pocatello, Idaho, where he was raised and spent most of his life. He attended Tendoy Elementary, Alameda Junior High, and graduated from Highland High School in 1971. During his childhood, Terry had the unique opportunity to live abroad in Brazil, Africa, and Colombia due to his father’s work. He loved sharing stories from those years—often joking that he spoke Spanish and Portuguese before he ever mastered English.

In his senior year of high school, Terry met the love of his life, Erini Ellen Hall. The two were married for 53 years and were truly best friends. Wherever Terry was, Erini was never far behind. Together they built a life full of love, laughter, and partnership.

Terry proudly served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1975 as an aircraft mechanic and continued his service in the reserves for several years. Following his military service, he spent 33 years working as a carpenter for Union Pacific Railroad in the Bridge and Building Department and the Wheel Shop. He was a skilled craftsman who took great pride in his work, both on the job and at home. One of his favorite accomplishments was the beautiful backyard deck he built, where he and Erini spent many happy years together.

Terry felt most at home outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fly fisherman, spending countless hours in his float tube or boat on Idaho’s lakes, side-by-side with his son, Jack, and father, Doug. In his younger years, he also enjoyed skiing Pebble Creek Ski Area and Pomerelle Mountain Resort. At home, he found just as much joy tending to his garden, growing everything from tomatoes and cucumbers to raspberries—always happy to share the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

Music was woven into the fabric of Terry’s life. He picked up a guitar in his teenage years and never set it down, playing nearly every day for the rest of his life. His home was often filled with the familiar sounds of Merle Haggard, Don Williams, Willie Nelson, the Beatles, James Taylor, and Neil Young—favorites he played with easy talent and unmistakable joy. Many of his songs were accompanied by the harmonica rack he wore around his neck, adding a soulful touch that was uniquely his. Terry’s love of music was not just a hobby but a defining part of who he was; when you thought of Terry, you thought of melody, warmth, and the beautiful music he shared so freely with others.

Terry’s greatest joy was his family. He had a very special place in his heart for his wife, Erini; his son, Jack; his daughter, Rebecca; his son-in-law, Luke; his daughter-in-law, Marsha; and his three granddaughters, Georgia, Annie, and Amelia. Spending time with his granddaughters, teaching them, and watching them grow brought him one of the greatest joys of his life. He cherished his close bond with his sister, Karen Dolbeer, and held his niece, Audrey Tyndall, in his heart. He also had a great bond with his brothers-in-law, Jim and John Hall, and sister-in-law, Annette Dalton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jack Douglas; his parents, Doug and Betty Stalder; his in-laws, Jack and Mary Hall; his brother-in-law, Richard Dolbeer; and his nephew, Joey Dolbeer.

Terry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his warmth, his humor, and the steady, caring presence he brought to all who knew him.
