Timothy Van Vleck, 72, of Pocatello, ID, passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2025.
He was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho, where his love for the outdoors began. From a young age, he was happiest outside — exploring, learning, and discovering how things worked. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Idaho State University in 1978, he went on to create a life doing what he loved most: building and creating. For over 40 years, he owned and operated Green Thumb Horticultural, a landscaping and pond-building business, pouring his heart into every project and leaving beauty behind wherever he worked.
He was married to Pamela Van Vleck (Townsend), the love of his life, for 50 wonderful years. Their marriage was built on deep love, laughter, and mutual respect. Together they raised a family filled with warmth and devotion. Of all his accomplishments, being a husband, father, and grandfather were what he cherished most. His two grandsons were his pride and joy, and nothing made him happier than time spent with them — fishing, laughing, and teaching them about the world.
In his younger years, he spent winters at Caribou Ski Area, where he worked as a ski instructor and on ski patrol. He also helped build the ski area chairlifts — a true testament to his skill, determination, and love for the mountain. Teaching others to ski, keeping people safe, and helping shape the very place he cherished combined his love for the outdoors, hard work, and people — a perfect reflection of his adventurous and generous spirit.
Fishing was his lifelong passion — especially fly fishing — and he loved sharing that joy with others. Whether teaching someone how to cast a line or swapping stories on the riverbank, he found peace and purpose in the rhythm of the water. He was endlessly curious, always learning something new, and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. He never met a stranger — only friends he hadn’t gotten to know yet.
He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and easy smile. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for. His love for life and for the people around him left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Van Vleck; his son, Jacob Van Vleck (Ashley); their sons, Harvey Van Vleck and Maxwell Van Vleck and his sisters Marilyn Van Vleck and Becky (Mark) Hurley; along with many family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Idaho Food Bank in his memory or simply asks that you honor him by spending some time outdoors doing something you love.
